soooooo, im down w/ the take(s) i did for the song today and will keep them i think. ta da! i’m kinda already over the tune, but its still cool so its stayin i say!
i’m definitely feeling the limitations of a two mic setup w/o a real piece of gear to go through. the little maudio preamp is definitely straight for many applications, but it is not a nice/real piece of gear. so getting the sounds i want out of this setup are not happening, and thus, that blows. its ridiculous that i have even gotten some of the sounds i have from this futuristic cheap computer setup i use but alas, its not dominating and so i really want that 6channel yamaha usb board w/ the compression and eq on it. this will help my sound immensely and needs. to. happen.
its just not reasonable for me to buy a sicky one/two channel preamp for easily over 5bills (to make it worth my buck), and so this yamaha board is definitely the other solution. being able to mic each drum (4) w/ two overheads will be critical and extremely fun to have. the next mic i’m gonna get will be a kickdrum mic, and then two instrument/tom mics and we’re good to bro.
so in summary, i got some good sounding takes today, but there is just no way that with a condensor, a 57, and this lil preamp, will i get the full drumset sound i want, so this mixer needs to happen! its definitely cool to have someone like karl w/ the resources to record what i want, but its too annoying to deal with, so i just gotta go solo.
i’m also not feeling terribly vexed either because this is the first batch of ‘real’ songs ive really ever done. meaning, played live w/ parts and pretending like its a band. so to even be able to get this shit going like i have been has been sweet, but i always like to try and get the dopest sounding thing down and its almost there but not quite right now! i dont even really plan on being too heavy duty into spending alot of time on tunes in the forseeable future because of school, but it will be sweet that whenever i do have time to mess with a song, i’ll have the equiptment needed to do that shit nice and have a legit demo or something.
